An introduction to the world of the International Super Modified Association
A typical ISMA starting field includes nearly every type of race driver from experienced, savvy veterans to young up-and-comers trying to make a name.
Many of the veterans of the series include some of the most talented open-wheel racers in the eastern half of the United States and Ontario, Canada such as multi-time ISMA champion Chris Perley, past champions Ben Seitz, Dave Shullick Jr. and Mike Lichty. Other fan favorites include New England fan favorite Mike Ordway Jr., Canadian Mark Sammut, female standout Alison Cumens and Ohio top guns Tim Jedrzejek, Mike McVetta and Trent Stephens.
The ISMA tour includes over a dozen franchise teams that attend every show. Similar to series like the World of Outlaws sprint cars, local teams join the ISMA regulars at various venues to make up impressive starting fields of over 20 and sometimes 30 winged supermodifieds.
ISMA supermodifieds are the fastest short-track racecars in the world. At approximately 1850 pounds with methanol fuel-injected big block Chevrolets pumping out over 800 horsepower, an ISMA super reaches speeds in excess of 140 mph at asphalt ovals that are all less than one mile in length.
Planted on a 20” Hoosier right-rear tire with loads of down force from the air-strut adjustable top wing, an ISMA super can maintain cornering speed that rivals any racecar in the world.

The ISMA tour visits a wide range of regions throughout the northeastern United States and Ontario. ISMA annually travels north of the boarder to Ontario’s Delaware Speedway and this show normally attracts additional Canadian-based teams, as well as teams from the Midwest Supermodified Association.
Ohio fans are served their fair share of ISMA super racing in July when the tour hits Sandusky Speedway for the annual Friday / Saturday Hy-Miler Nationals weekend July 27-28.
ISMA races in the Empire State of New York twice in 2018 - once at Lancaster Speedway near Buffalo on Saturday, June 2 and at Oswego Speedway on the Saturday of Classic Weekend on Sept. 1.
A number of ISMA teams call New England home, and the series runs in the region five times in 2018. New England ISMA events are scheduled for Monadnock Speedway May 19, Lee USA Speedway and New London-Waterford Speedbowl on back-to-back nights in August, Star Speedway in September and Thompson Int’l Speedway in October.
The 2018 ISMA tour begins in May at Monadnock Speedway and runs into October, always closing with the World Series of Racing at Thompson Int’l Speedway.
